SS11 - Assignment 11

Assignment 11:

Did the war have a positive or negative effect on Canada?

The World War I made a negative effect on Canada, although Canada is recognized by countries gradually during the World War I. "There are over 13 million people were killed during the first World War, and millions more were mentally or physically wounded."(Page 55) It also causes Canada lose lots of soldiers and money. The conscription during the war also makes a bad effect on the relation between the French Canadian and English Canadian. At that time, the French Canadian don’t want Canada to have conscription to support the Britain armies because they felt that they had no loyalty to either Britain or France and they think Canada should have their own decision with the war. So the different options on conscription make internal Canada a big schism. If there is no World War I, Canada will have few losses and the country will be peaceful.
