SS11 - Assignment 4

Assignment #4

Are you optimistic or pessimistic about the world’s ability to solve the climate change crisis? Why?

I feel pessimistic about the world’s ability to solve the climate change crisis when I see the varying and changeable weather this few year, the temperature is very high in summer and it’s very cold in winter, as if it tell us we should make some changes. People often talk about the environment problems, for instance, the global warming, ozone layer depletion and different kinds of pollutions. Sometimes the countries also meet together to discuss and think of the ways to protect the environment, such as the Paris Agreement, the Kyoto Protocol and Montreal Protocol. Although the countries agree to the agreements and would like to help solve the green house problems together, the negative effects are sill more than the solutions and it is hard to implement. The article “Can the Planet Be Saved?” from Atlantic notices that “Climate change is a lot worse than most of us realize. Almost regardless of what we do on the mitigation front, we are in for a whole lot of hurt” , which shows the environment is become worse and worse than what we think. The countries have already talked for more than 20 years about what we need to change for protecting the environment, but people in the countries still think it’s not that worse and think someone might will fix it up. I feel futureless about the world’s ability to solve the climate problems, because I don’t think people’s changes will make the world better quickly and I also can’t image what will happen at the end of the world.
